Photography has never been my ultimate medium. I have always considered it a means to the end of either a painting, film, or more recently an ink drawing. Most of the photos I saw while pondering how I thought of photography were the usual romantic, well-planned types with plenty of graphic realism but absolutely no emotion - which made most photos extremely dull for me. Photography reinvented itself in my third year of my degree - with the discovery of Sigmar Polke and his violent, careless camera shots and completely valueless way of developing and printing his photos. He's hot in New York, and I was hooked. The whole painting-on-the-paper-with-developer thing made photography interesting. As well as not processing your negatives properly. In general, turning photography into an intuitive process rather than the painstaking ordeal that it usually is. In that effect, emotion and composition have always been more of a concern to me than the typical depiction of objects in real life.
